GID Update
GID discussions are over
The CCEA Board thanks those who attended information meetings and shared opinions regarding the idea of turning Cherry Creek East into a General Improvement District (GID). Since the start of the study phase for this proposal, initiated by Councilmember Amanda Sawyer in February, the CCE community maintained a respectful tone as informal conversations, emails and meetings ensued. We especially appreciate the in-person engagement of neighbors at a Sept. 22 session hosted by Councilmember Sawyer. Thanks for keeping it classy! The study phase of this proposal has ended, and there is no plan for further consideration. Here is the official 9/22/25 announcement from Sawyer:

Dear Stakeholder,
The community engagement process to investigate a potential General Improvement District (GID) for the entirety of the Cherry Creek Statistical Neighborhood was initiated in early 2025 with the intention of finding a way to support you in receiving services that many of you have told my Council office are important. Our team works diligently to bring value for your tax dollars to you and all constituents we serve, and funding the exploration of a tool that many neighborhoods have successfully deployed was prioritized with the best of intentions.

This email is to let you know that we are officially ending the exploration and engagement effort to form a GID within the Cherry Creek Statistical Neighborhood and/or The Triangle.

A lack of community support compounded by the circulation of inaccurate facts and data about the GID created an environment in which constructive conversation about neighborhood needs -- and the GID as a tool to solve them -- could not occur. We are in the process of updating the project website at denvergov.org/CCGID to reflect the conclusion of the GID study. A final summary of findings and key takeaways from the process will be posted there for your review within the coming days.

We are grateful for the time, feedback, and engagement so many of you contributed throughout this process.

Best Wishes,
District 5 Councilmember Amanda Sawyer
